Winged Foot hosts US Open in 2020

The US Open Championship trophy went to Mamaroneck’s Winged Foot Golf Club in New York, on Monday and more importantly, the tournament will spend a week in the club in 2020.

John Schneider, the Winged Foot president and Greenwich resident, along with Thomas J. O’Toole Jr, the USGA vice president, posed with the US Open trophy after revealing this news – Winged Foot Club will hold the US Open in 2020.

The selection marks the sixth time the West Course at Winged Foot Golf Club will attract the best golfers in the world. It will also be the 12th USGA championship played at Winged Foot, with all but three taking place on the West Course. The 2020 U.S. Open is scheduled to be held June 18-21.

Even though the tournament is years away, the likes of Unibet and other online betting companies will have Rory McIlroy down as the favourite – by then he will be hitting his peak years as a golfer – might be worth an online bet!

Schneider said that Winged Foot is honored to have the USGA select it as the host. The club’s relationship with the USGA goes back to 1929, when Bob Jones defeated Al Espinosa to win the U.S. Open in a playoff. The relationship has been cherished by both ever since. Their 2 Tillinghast courses have always risen to the challenge of identifying the top golfers in the world. Winged Foot anxiously awaits its next group of challengers.

O’Toole said that this is really a great region for them to offer a national championship. Corporate America and the vibrant New York golf rooters are here.

Faith connects Stallings and Simpson

The household normalcy has finally returned for Scott Stallings. Recently it served as a spot for college golfers as Scott Stallings and the US Open 2012 champ Webb Simpson hosted CGF (College Golf Fellowship) retreat in Knoxville.

Stallings told that those days were quite chaotic. Some players slept on his coffee table, kitchen table, bathtubs or in couches. But the days were really great. Everyone spent a great time. That was not all. There was a seventy man dodgeball contest as well as a service project. And the last event, all of them had a great golf session with Scott Stallings at his very own home golf course named Oak Ridge Country Club.

On Tuesday morning, Webb Simpson came with the crew to see them off, but he could not play. Later he went back to his home to spent time with his wife and kid. Twenty seven year old Webb Simpson told that this was his very first retreat. In fact, he was able to see firsthand how much fun it was; getting away and hanging out. He loves to hang out with those guys. He added he just loved their passion for this game.

An ex-N.C. State player Korky Kemp, joined the College Golf Fellowship in the year 2005. He also takes care of events in East Region. He told that gatherings at PGA Tour golfer’ are quite common. He added that they are a minister that comes out of the PGA Tour’s Bible study around thirty years ago.

Webb Simpson tries out a New Body Scanner

Webb Simpson is not the person to miss out any of the advanced technologies introduced into golf. According to Simpson it is very essential to utilize the latest technologies to develop one’s game. Simpson already tried out a number of technologies and the latest one that he is the body scanner. It consists of an iDXA scanner which supports dual energy x-ray. It is very useful for the players to practice in a particular way.

Webb’s first use of this scanner was in the month of March. He said that he wanted to strengthen his left side and the scanner is pretty helpful to it. It let him know the work percentage he has done and even shows the percentage of fat in his body.

Though Webb Simpson used it, but it is not meant for any particular sport. It can be used by any ordinary man also. But the scanner is really helpful to the superstars as it provides the exact results. After using this machine, Simpson was found extremely happy. He thinks that it is a waste of time to be in the gym for hour after hour. Instead it is essential to know the condition of the body and then work out accordingly. He machine does exactly the same thing. You can consult your trainer after the scan and then decide which part of your body needs extra bit of care.

Webb Simpson has been in terrific form since last one year. He became victorious in three tournaments in last thirteen months which includes the US Open. Such a superstar is always busy with handling the camera and sponsors. This machine, as he rightly points out, saves his time. And it is beyond doubt that Simpson has gained favor after using it.

Scott disgusted with his Pathetic Putting

Adam Scott tied for the 27th spot after scoring 2-under par 69 in the opening round of the USPGA at TPC Boston. He is disgusted with his start and rightly so. The Queenslander would have been sharing the top with Seung-Yul Noh if he could utilize his chances.

Scott proclaimed earlier that his success would only be judged by the win in the playoffs of the FedEx cup. Accordingly he started brilliantly but his putting was disastrous. He was unable to convert several opportunities on the first nine holes. He himself considered his putting to be “pathetic”. (more…)

Simpson rules out British Open

After winning the US Open, Webb Simpson is elated for the birth of his second baby. He is ready to skip the upcoming British Open. It was anticipated that he will look forward to play in British Open, but it came as a surprise when he decided to skip it. His wife Dowd is expecting to deliver their second child in the latter half of the month of July.

The British Open will run from July 19-22. He had a glorious opportunity of winning both the US Open and British Open in a year and become the 7th golfer in the history to do so.

Simpson stated that what is more important is the birth of his child and he wants to be beside his wife at this stage of life. He is happy to put his family before his career. He stated that he is a man who loves his family very much and has the rest of his life to play British Open.

He is not the only professional golfer to skip any championship for the birth of his baby. Before the start of US Open in the year 1999, Phil Mickelson stated to the Press that he would leave the course in case his beeper went off. His beeper did not go off though and he had to satisfy himself with the second position.

Another golfer Jason Day faced similar situation last week during the US Open, when he said that he would also leave the course just like Phil Mickelson wanted to in case his wife went into an early labor.
